Job Description

The Senior Accountant is a key member of the Business Office team and is responsible for revenue and cash accounting. Key responsibilities include:

  • Monitoring and maintaining oversight of the school's tuition management system
    • serves as primary point of contact for parents
    • manages annual enrollment process
    • follows up on past due accounts and payment plans
    • sets up initial tuition billing
    • posts monthly entries from sub-ledger to general ledger and reconciles AR to the GL
    • posts manual payments to the student billing system
    • serves as primary contact with student billing provider (currently Blackbaud)
    • works closely with the Tuition Assistance Director to apply discounts
    • manages adjustments to student accounts for items including
      • late fees
      • iPad repair and/or replacement charges
      • auxiliary fees and department charges
      • discounts
      • refunds
  • Processing and depositing the funds received utilizing online banking procedures; prepare the monthly journal entries to the general ledger including but not limited to the following funds received from:
    • Operating departments
    • Institutional Advancement
    • Investments
    • Lancer Locker
  • Establishing and maintaining the internal controls over funds received and provided to Operations and other functions requiring school funds:
    • Documents and communicates the accounting and reporting requirements for cash boxes
    • Prepares reconciliations and ensures the proper revenue coding of funds received for timely and accurate accounting and reporting
  • Performing monthly account reconciliations
  • Performing high level account analysis and research
  • Providing assistance to other Business Office functions as required
  • BS in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA a plus
  • 5 years work experience, non-profit or school setting desired
  • Strong understanding of fund accounting
  • Sage INTACCT, Blackbaud experience
  • Proficient in Google Suite
  • Strong excel and analytical skills

  • Must be able to operate a keyboard and mouse
  • Must be able to use a telephone head or handset
  • Work requires visual acuity
  • Must be able to focus on highly detailed tasks for long periods of time
  • Must be able to sit for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs. in confined spaces
