Mechanical Design Engineer, Core Fans and Compressors
Indianapolis, IN
Within Core engineering, design engineers support delivery of every engine line through the development of technology, processes, and methods for an ever-evolving landscape of gas turbine products. The Fans and Compressors Mechanical Design Engineer will support the development of various Core R&T and knowledge capture projects and assist engine programs with their design expertise.

Key Accountabilities:
  • For Core R&T and improvement projects, deliver design solutions via mechanical design, analysis, hand calculations, tolerance stacks, presenting technical data, authoring technical reports, creating and reviewing functional and physical interfaces, and generating analysis requirements for components.
  • Assist engine programs by mentoring junior engineers, performing design tasks, and participating in Root Cause and Corrective Action teams.
  • Assist with connections with the global Rolls-Royce Fans and Compressors community.
  • Assist with the creation and maintenance of any necessary tools for Fans and Compressors mechanical design.
  • Assist with the creation and disposition of written guidance and Lessons Learnt.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelors in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with 2+ years of design experience OR
  • Masters Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering OR
  • JD/PhD
  • Experience using computer aided design tools such as Siemens NX.
  • Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), and the creation of limit stacks.
  • To be considered for this opportunity, you must be a US Citizen.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience designing Fan and/or Compressor components and sub-systems.
  • Experience using finite element analysis tools (such as ANSYS).
  • Programming skills such as Visual Basic, Python, PERL, C++ and/or computational tools such as Matlab.
  • An excellent command of the English language for both written and oral communications.
