DEP seeks to hire a Helicopter Mechanic within the Bureau of Police & Security, located at Hudson Valley Regional Airport Wappingers Falls, NY. Under general direction, with wide latitude for independent initiative and judgment, trouble shoot and diagnose aircraft maintenance problems and perform duties related to routine maintenance, structural repairs, rebuilding and/or upgrading of aircraft components and systems, and keeping of maintenance records for the agency's two Augusta AW119Kx Helicopter. Receive direction from Aviation Unit Supervisor and/or other higher level supervisory personnel. The mechanic will operate shop machinery, computers, electronic equipment, and a variety of hand tools; Inspect and diagnose mechanical defects and problems on helicopters, aircraft and associated aviation equipment, including airframe and powerplants; participate in aircraft check flights; Possess advanced electrical troubleshooting skills; Have refined rotor vibration/balancing skills; Inspect component parts according to guidelines including the airframe and engine; perform mechanical repairs or adjustments as appropriate; Analyze failures, determine problems and causes; recommend solutions; Perform preventive maintenance on equipment, including lubricating and replacing worn parts, checking fuel and condition of fueling equipment; Adapt new equipment to fit existing helicopters; Modify existing aircraft to allow installation of new equipment; Perform off-site repairs and maintenance. Complete reports, maintain records, maintenance manuals and air-worthiness directives for the airframe and the engine; Order supplies and equipment; maintain inventory of parts supply and fuel supply; contact vendors; Stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of electronics, avionics, and helicopter/aircraft maintenance and repairs; Maintain and clean the shop area. Estimate time, materials, and equipment required for jobs assigned; requisition materials as required; Perform aircraft cleaning and repainting and other duties as directed.
