Who You'll Work With

You'll work in our Waltham office as part of our global Client Capability Network.
Colleagues in our global Client Capability Network deliver distinctive client impact through assets and expertise and are driven by a culture of innovation. We work with McKinsey consulting teams across the globe to help derive insights from market information and create foundations for sound recommendations for client and internal projects.
You will be a part of our rapidly growing Sustainability Insights team, joining an international team of 20+ analysts focusing on a variety of business domains. You will work with various McKinsey client-serving teams, playing an active role in supporting international projects, and problem-solving the most suitable solutions to solve our clients' business problems related to sustainability topics.

What You'll Do

You will conduct research and analysis covering a broad range of sustainability topics across various sectors and business functions.
You will work alongside experienced content experts. On client projects, you will apply proprietary tools and methodologies and follow a data-driven approach to solve the most challenging sustainability problems out there. This can take you from designing a bottom-up decarbonization plan of a specific industrial site to creating macroscopic energy outlooks through to 2050 on the impact of different climate policies.
You will be developing assets, knowledge, and tools within the field of sustainability. Within time you will be encouraged to develop into a world-class expert acting as a thought partner to McKinsey senior leadership and our clients.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field such as mathematics, engineering, physics or equivalent
  • 1+ years' of relevant experience in energy, decarbonization or sustainability
  • Advanced Excel capabilities, comfortable working with numbers and quantitative models. Additional experience with programming tools such as Plexos Times/Markal, and languages such as VBA, Python or R are a plus
  • Strong interest in climate change and sustainability topics
  • Ambition to work in a fast-paced, result-oriented team and company, with steep learning curve and strong commitment to coaching and development
  • Enthusiasm to work in a start-up environment, with agile digital product-development, in a multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary team
  • Superior problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team, and to work effectively with people at all levels in an organization
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
