We are looking for a Designer/Drafter to join our Nuclear and Aerospace departments. This position may be filled at another level depending upon experience.

Position Purpose

Working under minimum supervision of the department manager, the Designer Drafter 3 is responsible for generating and updating engineering drawings, manufacturing work instructions and prototype designs using SolidWorks CAD and Microsoft Office software.

Essential Job Functions (primary duties and outputs of position)

  • Works with Design engineer(s) to create or modify engineering drawings.
  • Manages files using product data management software (ADEPT).
  • Create 3D models of assemblies and parts and generate detailed dimensional drawings.
  • Troubleshoot assemblies for fit, form and function. Can recommend and implement corrections.
  • Able to interpret and incorporate redline changes to existing engineering documents using ECN (Engineering Change Notice) process.
  • Prepare project task schedules and updates.
  • Present draft 3D models regarding design specification to supervisors and engineers.
  • Work with manufacturing floor to create prototypes for tooling and new products.
  • Work with manufacturing floor to generate manufacturing work instructions.
  • Generate bill of materials.
  • Generate outline/dimensional drawings and wiring diagrams.


  • Follow safe work practices, participate in safety training as required, and report any unsafe condition or accident.


  • Employees are responsible to understand and support the quality policy and the appropriate elements of the quality management system for their areas of work, reduce, eliminate, and prevent quality deficiencies including escapes.
  • Initiate action to prevent the occurrence of nonconformities related to product, process, and quality system.
  • All employees have the responsibility and authority to identify quality deficiencies, elevate any concerns for action within or related to our quality system and processes.


  • Communicates effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Maintains effective and constructive working relationships with others both internally and externally.
  • Assists in the preparation of effective reports and presentation of departmental information.

Education/Work Experience Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in computer aided design and mechanical drafting with 3-5 years’ work experience or equivalent progressive work experience equal to 6-7 years without degree.
  • Advanced knowledge of machining processes.
  • Advanced knowledge of welding processes.
  • Advanced knowledge of multiple formats for CAD (IGES, STEP, SLDDRW, etc.)
  • Progressive in-depth experience reading and interpreting drawings.
  • Progressive in-depth 3D modeling experience using SolidWorks is required. Additional experience with AutoCAD software platform is preferred.
  • Progressive in-depth experience managing files through a product data management platform, ADEPT preferred.
  • Must have attention to detail.
  • Strong knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office Suite.

Physical/Travel Requirements

This position requires sitting, typing and working at a computer station 80% of the time. Minimum walking or standing, and lifting up to 15 lbs. are required. This position does not require travel.
