At this stage in my career/life, more than anything I wanted to find a position where I could have a significant positive impact on the world. It's what sets working at the gallery apart-- this is the first career where I know my work has a positive impact every single day, and I had spent 5 years working in the arts nonprofit sector before finding my way here. There really is no other company doing what we do, and the challenge that comes with that "frontier line", as the owner would say, is frankly thrilling and well worth the learning curve that comes with it. Make no mistake, it is hard work. It's fast paced and high expectations-- but also much higher rewards (both ethically for conservation and financially). Our work at the gallery really takes time to perfect, and I'm always learning something new. But at the end of the day, I know what I'm doing has a real effect on the world around me. And I know that the team and company leaders have my back 100%, and are there supporting me every step of the way. I can honestly say that I look forward to each day at the gallery, in part because of the wonderful people I get to work with-- they're simply the best, most passionate and dedicated group. In terms of benefits and pay and the day-to-day logistics-- it's a local small business, so no it doesn't have the same set-up you find in the corporate world. But there are benefits (PTO, paid parking, health stipend, employee discounts), and my earning potential is only limited by what *I* can achieve, not what a corporate office says I can. This job asks a lot of you, but it gives so much more. I have the privilege of leaving work every day knowing that I've helped make someone's life/home more beautiful, or that I contributed to saving the environment, or that I've inspired someone to explore a new part of the world and expand their horizons-- literally and figuratively! That's just incredible, truly incredible, and I can't wait to see where we go from here!
