• Performs a variety of road and bridge maintenance and construction duties. May work on one or more crews including asphalt, general maintenance, truck string, drainage, reclamation/stabilization, and traffic and signs.
• Performs manual labor using various hand tools or equipment, including shovels, picks, axes, jackhammers, and power saws. Lifts and carries jackhammers, connected air hoses, and gasoline hand tamper with assistance. Installs and removes snowplow and harnesses.
• Patches asphalt using crack sealing equipment and performs asphaltic concrete patching on paved roads. Carries asphalt or cement chunks to and from sites and vehicles. Operates self-propelled hand rollers. Performs flagging duties.
• Operates various types of road construction vehicles, to include medium to heavy trucks such as tandem dump trucks, patch trucks, hydraulic excavators, bulldozers, graders, roadside mowers, and rollers. Performs routine maintenance and minor mechanical repair on equipment to include lubing and greasing as necessary. Lifts and carries grader, bulldozer, or loader blades.
• May paint and sandblast structures; installs guardrails, snow fences, culverts, and pipes; digs trenches with assistance.
• Lifts and carries bridge timbers and guard rails with assistance.
• Trains other operators in various duties as assigned.
• Completes and maintains daily logs regarding activities performed and materials used.
• Operates equipment on roadways in compliance with laws and ordinances. Sets up construction work zones.
• Serves as the Team Lead in their absence.
• Responds to on-call after hours emergencies, such as snow removal flood repair, tornado clean-up, or other natural disaster or safety need for the motoring public.
• Performs Maintenance Worker I and II duties as needed.
• Performs other duties as required.

• Minimum three (3) years of experience in road and bridge construction, maintenance techniques, and procedures required.
• Minimum three (3) years of experience in the operation and maintenance of heavy equipment required.
• Knowledge of road and bridge construction, maintenance techniques, and procedures.
• Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations for practical working situations.
• Ability to communicate and work effectively with County staff and the general public.
• Ability to understand and follow oral instruction or written diagrams, blueprints and specifications.
• Must observe and follow safety procedures and precautions.
• Ability to read and interpret the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).
• Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
• Must pass conditional post offer background investigation, motor vehicle record check, drug screen, and physical examination.

• Must possess and maintain a Colorado Class A Commercial Driver's License with air brakes. Tanker Endorsement must be obtained prior to employment.
• Ability to obtain a Colorado Flagger Certificate within sixty (60) days of employment.

Work is performed outdoors and requires lifting, bending, and climbing, at times in hazardous situations such as operating construction vehicles in adverse weather. Works with potentially dangerous equipment and tools; may work with hazardous materials, including fuels, paints, asphalts, herbicides, and pesticides. Must be able to safely lift 40 lbs. from the waist to the shoulders, lift 30 pounds from the floor to the head, push 80 lbs., and pull 100 lbs. horizontally. Subject to emergency off hours call-out. Subject to drug and alcohol testing.
