Position Description:

The Assistant Controller provides direct support to the Senior Vice President of Finance, Human Resources, and Administration. This position performs the accounting for a growing federal government contractor by performing all day-to-day, monthly and year-end activities. This position supports other aspects of the company.

Minimum/General Experience:5+ years' experience in federal government contractor accounting and finance with a focus in government accounting and regulatory compliance; federal government contracting experience supporting and analyzing fixed firm price (FFP), time and materials (T&M), and Cost-Plus contract types.

Minimum Education:Bachelors' degree in accounting, finance, business administration or equivalent years of experience.

Essential Skills/Qualifications:

  • Experience providing accounting and finance services to a federal government contractor that provides services to agencies such as DoD, DHS, DOJ, VA (Required - only candidates that have accounting experience with a company that has provided services to the federal government will be considered)
  • Experience with Unanet or Deltek Financial Software, this does not include Unanet or Deltek Commercial products (Required)
  • Experience with payroll systems (e.g., Payroll Network)
  • Above average proficiency in MS Excel and MS Word
  • Above average attention to detail
  • Working knowledge of the Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR), Defense Contract Audit Agency (DCAA), Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA), Cost Accounting Standards (CAS), and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced and dynamic small business environment
  • Ability to follow established processes and procedures
  • Ability to conduct research, including internet research
  • Ability to collaborate and work in a cohesive team to achieve company goals
  • Effective in interpersonal relationship building and collaboration skills
  • Ability to organize own work, coordinating projects, setting priorities, meeting deadlines and following up on assignments with a minimum of direction
  • Ability to use initiative and independent judgment within established policy and procedural guidelines

Tasks/Activities include, but are not limited to:

The Assistant Controller performs daily accounting functions using both cost accounting and government cost accounting principles (e.g., accounts receivable (AR), accounts payable (AP), general ledger (GL), payroll, taxes).

  • Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual closing activities using Unanet including journal entry posting, balance sheet reconciliations and corporate expense allocation
  • Prepare, review, and analyze general ledger account reconciliations
  • Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements to ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Prepare internal financial management reports
  • Identify any discrepancies in the accounts, troubleshoot origin, and make correcting entries to ensure accurate financial reporting
  • Analyze cash flow activities
  • Support budget formulation, analysis, and monitoring
  • Support indirect rate budgets and file annual Provisional Rate Submission
  • Support Incurred Cost Estimate and all other DCAA submissions
  • Perform payroll activities using iSolved Payroll Network (e.g., timesheets, payroll, payroll taxes)
  • Support workers' compensation insurance payroll activities
  • Support contract financial performance activities and analysis
  • Prepare and coordinate pricing/cost proposals
  • Support tax activities to include external accountants
  • Support interim and year-end internal financial audit activities and the annual corporate financial controls audit, as well as the external audit closing and reporting at year-end
  • Support 401k financial reconciliations and reviews
  • Assess current accounting and financial operations, policies and procedures offering recommendations for improvement and implementing new processes
  • Support accounting and internal control systems
  • Support other financial activities as assigned
